Websockets history in proxy

Daniel | Last updated: Oct 10, 2024 06:57PM UTC

Hi there, My burp suite Websockets history in proxy generate a lot of PING PONG history (even before I start typing in the chat, one lab generated almost 1500 history, with 95% are PING PONG). PING is to server, PONG is the response from the server to client. I saw some lab regarding WebSockets vulnerabilities on Youtube, their WebSockets history in proxy does not generate this much PING PONG history. How can I configure to stop generate these much of PING PONG. Thank you!

Hi Normally, these messages would be sent as a control frame, which isn't displayed by Burp. However, this behavior is different in the labs. I'd recommend adjusting your WebSockets filter to not show this traffic. You can do this by putting "PING|PONG" in the "Filter by search term" section, then ticking "Regex" and "Negative search". Hope this helps!
