Thanks for your message. Which version of Burp are you using? Are you using the JAR or the installed version of Burp? Have there been any recent changes, e.g. upgrading Burp or using a different version on the same machine? If you check the location where the Burp binaries are installed (you can find this by going to Help > Diagnostics > Search for 'Burp Browser binaries') do the files exist? If some of the dependencies for the browser are missing it's possible you may need to reinstall Burp.

I am having the same issue. I just upgraded to the latest version on start up and copied the .jar to my /usr/bin/ directory, renaming it to "burpsuite". Now when I click on "Open Browser" in the "Proxy > Intercept" tab I get a "binaries not found" error. I checked the location as mentioned above and found them here: Burp Browser binaries /usr/bin/burpsuite/burpbrowser/96.0.4664.45 I'm not sure what it means as /usr/bin/burpsuite isn't a directory. Thankfully I renamed the old executable and kept it just in case. Reverting back to it opens the old version of Burp Suite and the browser opens no problem, but when I rename the files and swap back I get the same issue occurring. I have tried restarting Kali, and doing an update/upgrade, but nothing changes when I open Burp Suite. I can of course open my browser from the Kali menu, but it makes me wonder if I will have similar problems with other tools I haven't used yet.

Thanks for your message. Can we double-check a couple of details with you, please? Are you downloading the JAR file from https://portswigger.net/burp/releases and then launching that via the CLI? If so, which version of Java are you using? Or have you downloaded the Linux installer?

Hi Michelle, I click the 'Update now' button in Burp Suite and it takes me to that URL where I download the JAR file. I then make it executable and run it from the CLI. Here are the details on my system for Java: $ java --version Picked up _JAVA_OPTIONS: -Dawt.useSystemAAFontSettings=on -Dswing.aatext=true openjdk 11.0.13 2021-10-19 OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 11.0.13+8-post-Debian-1) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.0.13+8-post-Debian-1, mixed mode, sharing)

Thanks for the update. Which version of Burp are you downloading when you follow the link and download the JAR file? So we can try and replicate this, can you also send us the commands you are running to make the file executable and launch BUrp from the CLI, please? If it's easier to send these details via email feel free to send them over to support@portswigger.net.

Sorry, I'm an idiot. I just double checked and I'm not actually downloading a .jar file at all. The file I'm actually downloading is burpsuite_community_linux_v2021_10_3.sh The good news is I managed to fix the issue. Just to run through what I did for anyone else having the same problem, here's what I did: First I decided to do a fresh install, so uninstalled Burp Suite by running: sudo /opt/BurpSuiteCommunity/uninstall Next, I made the downloaded file executable by typing: chmod +x burpsuite_community_linux_v2021_10_3.sh Then ran it with: sudo ./burpsuite_community_linux_v2021_10_3.sh When the setup wizard launches, instead of asking me if I want to update the existing installation like it did last time, it prompts me with an install location and a symlinks location. I just went with the defaults, /opt/BurpSuiteCommunity/ and /usr/local/bin/ respectively. Once it finished, and because I generally run Burp Suite by navigating through the Applications menu in Kali, I right click burpsuite there and click "Edit application...". Next to the "command" field I click the button with the upward arrow and navigate to /opt/BurpSuiteCommunity/BurpSuiteCommunity After this I can open Burp Suite normally and the "Open Browser" button opens the pre-configured browser no problems. Again, my apologies for the confusion earlier.
