Scrolling button dissapears

George | Last updated: Dec 08, 2015 10:37AM UTC

The last few versions of Burp Pro (apologies I cannot recall which version I firstly identified this) suffer from a quite annoying bug. The scroll button in most of the windows/features that requires this, disappears soon after the window fills up with the intended data. If not mistaken in the last version (1.6.31) you are able to re-size the window and eventually the scroll bar re-appears but it shouldn't really disappear completely if you decide to make the window smaller for usability reasons.

Hi George Thanks for your message. This is a known issue with very recent versions of Java: https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8134828 It only affects the Nimbus look-and-feel, so you can change to Metal (at Options / Display) to get rid of the problem. Otherwise, hopefully Java will get fixed in an update soon. Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

Just to be clear, this isn't a Burp bug. It's a Java bug affecting the Nimbus look-and-feel. You can switch to another look and feel in the Burp display options (e.g. metal) or you can upgrade to the latest Java when a fix is available from Oracle.

This bug is very serious because it is preventing users from finding bugs. The default version of burp struggles with medium-sized test cases of ~75k requests. Trying to have a moderate sized test case of 750,000 is totally out of the question :( Burp needs to be able to handle tests cases in the 7-70 million request range. When this bug is fixed, burp users will find more 0-days (period)
