"Scan Not Progressing" error with a Site Scan in Burpsuite Enterprise

Nathan | Last updated: Nov 10, 2021 09:50AM UTC

We are experiencing issues where a site scan fails after 24 hours with the "Scan Not Progressing" error. Even though the scan configuration limits the Crawl time to 60 minutes it runs for a long time. Looking at the scan details, what is odd is that the "URLs Scanned" count under "Scan Details" is zero and the number of locations is also very low (often below 20). The site configuration is very straight forward - we're entering a top level FQDN such as "www.mydomain.net" and not using authentication. We've tried a variety of custom and builti-in scan configurations all with very similar results. If there was connection issues I'd expect the scan to timeout much quicker and fail. But its as if the scanner just hangs and the scan task remains active for up to 24 hours before it finally fails citing the above error. Whats perculiar is a similar scan configuration in Burpsuite Pro appears to work and the scans complete in Burpsuite Pro Other scans using the same Burp Scanner / Scan Agent run fine and complete so we're confident the scanners themselves are "doing what they're told" ! :o) Any thoughts? We're running the latest Enterprise version and Burp Scanner/Scan Agent versions (v2021.8.1 and v2021.9.1 respectively. We have the Burp Scanners deployed on their own hosts. Thanks Nathan
