Reporting an issue with UTF-8 characters results in garbage

Mark | Last updated: Jan 24, 2020 02:56PM UTC

We have German text in issues generated by an extension we've written. Burp displays it correctly, but when reporting the issues in XML form, the Umlauts and other non-ASCII characters get garbled. To replicate: create a Python-based extension, create an issue with any of "äöü" (or, presumably many other non-ASCII characters) in the text, report as XML.

Would you be able to send us your sample extension to support@portswigger.net so we can attempt to replicate this issue?

Hi Asaaf, Are you able to clarify the issue you are facing? Are you experiencing a similar issue to the original poster - XML output not displaying characters correctly?

Hi, Can you confirm what option you have configured in the User options -> Display -> Character Sets section of Burp?
