Problems reinstalling burp suite enterprise

Duran | Last updated: Feb 19, 2021 12:51AM UTC

I had burp suite enterprise installed in a Windows 2019 server, but I had to reboot the server. I tried to restart/start the burp services, but none of my efforts worked. From the forum below, someone from the support team advice to uninstall and reinstall burp suite enterprise. https://forum.portswigger.net/thread/how-to-relaunch-burp-enterprise-after-restarting-machine-88547d53 I am trying to reinstall using the GUI and the already existing MySQL DB, but I get an error that reads "failed to initialize database". What is the cause of this error and how can I fix it?

To answer a few questions found in other forums: When you tried to re-install Burp Enterprise had you uninstalled everything first? If so, could you talk us through the steps you took to uninstall it? Deleted everything under C:\Program Files\burpsuite_enterprise Deleted everything under C:\ProgramData\BurpSuiteEnterpriseEdition Uninstalled from control Panel programs When you re-installed Burp were you using the same version as the one that had been installed previously or a newer version? Thanks for your message. Could we ask which services you attempted to restart? - https://portswigger.net/burp/documentation/enterprise/infrastructure/services Could you provide a list of the services currently running?

@Liam, After removing burp ent. and attempting to reinstall, I do not see any of the 4 services running or listed in Windows Services. I am able to successfully install burp ent, but only if I chose the embedded DB. When I install using the embedded DB, I am able to see the 4 services running. Is there a way to install Burp ent using the embedded DB and then reconfigure to use my old DB? Or is there a way to directly install Burp ent using my old existing MySQL DB?

Yes, you can migrate from an embedded database to an external database: - https://portswigger.net/burp/documentation/enterprise/administration-tasks/migrating-db Please let us know if you need any further assistance.
