One scanning queue per host ?

Davy | Last updated: Aug 07, 2015 08:21AM UTC

Hello, When you have to work on multiple targets (hosts) and launch a scan on all of them, the scanning time is slowed down because you have a single queue. This single queue means that Burp have to finish scanning host1 pages before starting to scan host2. With one scanning queue per host total scanning time could be a lot faster. Of course you can tell Burp to "Scan next" an item but it is a weak workaround... Davy

Just to be clear about your use-case, are you working on several different target applications within the same instance of Burp? If so, we would probably just suggest using different projects and different Burp instances for each target. If not, and this is a single application spanning several hosts, is there much to be gained by changing the scanning order based on hostname rather than the order things were sent for scanning? Just trying to understand what situation you are in and what you are trying to achieve, so we can think about how Burp could best help with that.

The use-case was a single project spread over several applications and hosts. The whole thing was managed through a single Burp instance. Of course I could had worked with multiple Burp instances but there was around 30 hosts and I'm not sure my laptop (and my brain) could allow 30 JVM with Burp...

Ok fair enough. We are planning to support multiple concurrent projects with different configs/engines within the same instance of Burp, which will hopefully help with this use case.

Hi Davy. Look out for news regarding this functionality in the second half of this year.
