Hi, I replied to your email about this yesterday but, to reiterate, we have slightly changed the way the deletion of bytes in the Hex view now works. You would need to manually select the number of bytes you wish to delete before then right-clicking and using the 'Delete selected bytes' context menu option. If you prefer the old way of doing things then you should be able to obtain the 2021.5.3 release from our releases page (https://portswigger.net/burp/releases).

Small update needed in documentation. I'm going through the web academy. Here is a few references to the old items. I was 'stuck' on this lesson knowing how many bytes to delete (i'm a tad rusty on bit, byte, bytes :)). https://portswigger.net/web-security/logic-flaws/examples/lab-logic-flaws-authentication-bypass-via-encryption-oracle https://portswigger.net/burp/documentation/desktop/functions/message-editor This is a rather confusing / yet challenging lesson in the Web Academy. This text helped me explain each two digit item in HEX view is a byte. "This view displays messages in raw form in a hexadecimal editor. It shows messages arranged into lines of 16 bytes, and displays the hex value of each byte. You can edit messages in the hex view, and any values that you insert can be given as characters or in two-digit hexadecimal form, from 00 through FF."

Hi Steve, I think you are right here - some of our documentation, especially the lab solution that you have linked to, probably needs to be updated in order to reflect that we have altered how bytes are now deleted within Burp. I will pass this onto the content team so that they are aware of this and can make the necessary changes.

Hi, there's still no update on this.

Hi Gaurav, The changes to the solution are still with our content team. They are hoping to update this as soon as possible but we will update this forum thread when this happens.

Hi all, Just to confirm that we have now changed the solution for this lab so that it does reference the current way of deleting bytes in the Decoder.

The solution is still not very clear. Step 9 is misleading. Following the current step 9 doesn't logically flow. You can still remove the number of bytes using the hex editor in Decoder. Just count 23 spaces and highlight as you are counting. Then right click and delete selected bytes. From there you can re-encode.
