Missing GUI elements with Ubuntu 22.04 Wayland

Rodney | Last updated: Sep 11, 2023 03:11PM UTC

After a recent update to Ubuntu 22.04 (Wayland) when launching Burp Suite Professional many of the GUI elements (radio options, text, scroll combos) have missing components making the GUI difficult to navigate. This occurred on both 2023.7 and 2023.9.4 versions. Installed using the Linux sh script installer which uses the private JRE when launching Burp. Ran from inside a VMware Workstation 16.2.5 virtual machine. This has impacted multiple Java based desktop GUI applications. It is dependent on the Ubuntu video driver and settings. Workarounds (pick any one): 1. Power down, uncheck Accelerate 3D graphics in the VM settings - Possible performance hit, but may not be noticeable except with large projects Use a workaround from this issue tracker: - https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/JBR-4507/After-upgrading-Ubuntu-to-22.04-LTS-some-GUI-elements-are-not-displayed 2. Disable Glamor (set XWAYLAND_NO_GLAMOR=1 in /etc/environment, then reboot the system). 3. Add -Dsun.java2d.opengl=true to /Software/BurpSuitePro/user.vmoptions - user.vmoptions will be preserved even after future Burp software updates
