JRE warning magic number

Daniel | Last updated: Jan 20, 2023 09:00AM UTC

Hi, I use the Java version of Burp Suite Professional in Kali linux and on the first start it shows the well known message "Your JRE appears to be version 17.0.5 from Debian." When I check "Don't show again for this JRE" Burp adds a new setting to `.java/.userPrefs/burp/prefs.xml`. In my case `<entry key="suite.alertsdisabledforjre-1849443513" value="true"/>`. But after some time the magic number 1849443513 changes and the dialog appears again. Does someone know how this value is calculated? I could not find a way to receive a 10 digit java version number.

Hi This number is a hash of the vendor and version. I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you for the answer - that makes sense. Can you also tell me how this hash is calculated? Then I could write an automatic script that always sets the correct value for the installed java version in my Kali linux virtual machine. Thank you.

I would also be interested in disabling this information.

Hi There isn't a specific option within Bur to disable this message. The number is a hash of the vendor and version. While some of our users have been considering looking into creating scripts, providing these would be outside the scope of our support.

Thanks Michelle, getting some insight in how the number is calculated so I can create a script would already be enough for me. Is that something you are willing to provide to a licensed customer?
