Intercept mobile device network using BurpSuitePro

Thomas | Last updated: Mar 31, 2021 03:21AM UTC

Hi, I have recently setup a BurpSuite on MacBook running on MacOS 11.2.3 (Big Sur) and would wish to intercept the network traffic on mobile devices (Android and iOS). I have followed the setup listed here: https://portswigger.net/support/configuring-an-android-device-to-work-with-burp https://portswigger.net/support/configuring-an-ios-device-to-work-with-burp However, I am unable to intercept any network traffic on this device. I have performed a similar setup on other devices (Windows and MacOS Catalina) and was able to do so successfully. I have attached my JRE environment logs from Burp Suite diagnostic and would like to seek guidances if this could be the underlying issue. java.runtime.name OpenJDK Runtime Environment java.runtime.version 15.0.2+7-27 java.specification.name Java Platform API Specification java.specification.vendor Oracle Corporation java.specification.version 15 java.vendor Oracle Corporation java.vendor.url https://java.oracle.com/ java.vendor.url.bug https://bugreport.java.com/bugreport/ java.version 15.0.2 java.version.date 2021-01-19 java.vm.compressedOopsMode Zero based java.vm.info mixed mode java.vm.name OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM java.vm.specification.name Java Virtual Machine Specification java.vm.specification.vendor Oracle Corporation java.vm.specification.version 15 java.vm.vendor Oracle Corporation java.vm.version 15.0.2+7-27 jdk.debug release jdk.tls.allowUnsafeServerCertChange true

Hi Thomas,

Just to clarify, what version of Burp are you using and are you using the installer (rather than the standalone Jar)?

Is this a case of no traffic at all appearing in Burp with your setup or are you encountering any errors (either on the mobile browser side or within Burp itself)? Am i right to assume that you have configured this in exactly the same manner as your previous attempts on Windows and Catalina?

I did run through a quick test with a version of Big Sur that i have available and an iPhone running iOS 14.4.1 and was able to successfully proxy the traffic between the two using Burp Community 2021.3.1.

Hi Ben, I am using BurpSuite Pro 2021.3.1 on an jailbroken iPhone running iOS 14.4.1 and a rooted Samsung S10Lite on Android 10. I tried both the installer (Pro and Community) and standalone Jar (Community) and I am encountering the same issue.

Hi Thomas, Just to follow up my point in the previous message - if you try to browse to a site in your mobile device browser does the page load successfully? If it does not load successfully are you seeing any error messages in either the browser or Burp itself?
