Increase Scanner Speed

amarionette | Last updated: Mar 16, 2021 05:45AM UTC

Hello, I noticed that the speed of requests does not appear to match the # of maximum concurrent requests specified in the resource pool. For example, I am noticing a max of 2 requests per second but have specified 30 maximum concurrent requests. My Burp memory usage is also under utilized at approximately 1 GB. Is there another way to increase the speed of the Scanner? OS: MacOS Big Sur 11.2 Burp Version: 2021.2.1

Hi, The maximum number of concurrent requests is just that - a maximum. This does not indicate that your requests will be sent in batches of 30 all the time (since a maximum is specified and not a minimum). If you want to increase the speed of your scan, please adapt your scan configuration. Take a look at the Crawl/Audit Optimization sections and the Issues Reported in your audit configuration. Have you set any restrictions on the amount of memory allocated to Burp? It should use half of what is available on your system by default. You can change this by editing the VMOPTIONS file in the installation directory (if you have installed the platform version) or by launching Burp via the command line with the -Xmx parameter (https://portswigger.net/burp/documentation/desktop/getting-started/launching/command-line)

I will adjust the "Audit Speed" option in "Audit Optimization" and report back. Currently, it is set to normal and I am only running an Audit Scan (no crawl). I thought 2 requests per second was still a bit slow given standard settings. I have not set any restrictions on memory for Burp Suite. I will try running Burp suite via the command line, as opposed to launching the from the .app file.
