I cannot route traffic from mobile devices to Burp

Lucas | Last updated: Jan 08, 2023 12:10AM UTC

Hello! I am trying to route all traffic from my iPhone to Burp. I checked the wifi settings on my phone and when I enable the proxy on my iOS device, it says no internet connection. I am running IOS 16.0.3. How do I fix this?

Hi Lucas, Are you able to provide us with details of the steps that you have taken to try and set this up so that we can see exactly what you are doing - some screenshots of the following would be useful (if it is easier, you can send these to support@portswigger.net): - Screenshot of the proxy settings you have configured on the iOS device - Screenshot of the proxy listener settings within Burp (under the Proxy -> Options -> Proxy Listener section) - Screenshots of the IP address of the iOS device and machine that Burp is installed on In addition to the above, what happens if you attempt to browse to http://example.com (a simple HTTP site) in the browser on your iOS device?

Hi Lucas, I am having an issue viewing those images in Imgur - would you be able to email them directly to the support@portswigger.net email address? Just to clarify your second point, you CAN successfully visit HTTP sites in the browser on your iOS device? Do you also see this traffic within Burp? If so, this would suggest the integrity of your connection is good and that you have configured the initial proxy settings correctly. Are you able to confirm?

Hello Ben, yes I am able to access HTTP sites and YES they show up on the burp capture/http history. Ill email the photos shortly.

Hi Lucas, We have received your email. If you can successfully proxy HTTP sites then the integrity of your connection would appear to good and doing what it is supposed to be doing (traffic is being sent through to Burp successfully). The next step would then be to install the Burp CA certificate on your iOS device so that you can interact with HTTPS traffic - Step 3 of the following guide steps through this process: https://portswigger.net/burp/documentation/desktop/mobile/config-ios-device

I already did that.

Hi Lucas, What issue are you now facing? You confirmed that you can proxy HTTP sites through Burp so, unless I have misread your email, then your connection setup would appear to be good. Are you having issues with proxying HTTPS sites or something else?

Lucas | Last updated: Jan 13, 2023 11:10PM UTC

I cant visit HTTPS sites.
