Hostname resolution overrides not working properly in Burp Suite

Breno | Last updated: Mar 17, 2023 09:05PM UTC

When I enable the "Hostname resolution overrides" option in Burp Suite and change the hostname, it works as expected and overrides the ip from the original hostname. However, when I uncheck the box to disable the option, it doesn't seem to take effect and the overridden ip is still used. My hypothesis is that Burp Suite may have an internal cache that is not overwritten every time this option is changed. - Burp Suite Professional v2023.2.3

Thanks for getting in touch. We've been running some tests here and, so far, have not replicated the behavior. Can you email support@portswigger.net with the following details so we can take a closer look, please? - Are you using Burp's embedded browser or an external browser? - If you open a new browser window, is the override IP still used? - Can you also please include the output from Help -> Diagnostics for your installation of Burp?

Any updates on this?

We've had some initial discussions with the developers. While the change itself may not be that complex, there are some areas we need to review to ensure there are no adverse side-effects on other functions of Burp, so I can't promise any timescales on this just yet, but we are still reviewing this issue.
