High CPU and Memory Utilization

ismail | Last updated: Mar 09, 2020 06:25PM UTC

Before I used Professional 2020.2, I had used Professional 2.1.05 and same problems has also occured which arrive CPU utilization to 100% and then, in some seconds, Burp is closed without any notification. Whenever scanner activity has increased, then system resources are also presume on completely. Therefore, scanner configuration was changed from all traffic to custom scope a domain. However, it occured again and again. What is your suggestion to be use the Burp Suite Pro without any interruption?

Hi, Are you able to provide us with the machine specification that you are using to run Burp on? Also, are you creating a disk based Burp Project or running a temporary project when seeing this issue? Lastly, are you using the installer version of Burp or the JAR file?

Hi, Do you have performance feedback enabled (User options -> Misc -> Performance feedback)? If so, could you provide us with your diagnostics so that we have this information (Help -> Diagnostics)? Do you find the increase in system resources occurring as a result of particular tasks being run or does it happen generally (i.e. the resources are fine until a scan is started)? Do you have any extensions loaded with Burp? On a general note, running Burp with disk based projects should be less RAM intensive because Burp is able to save information to disk rather than having to use memory. Do you find the RAM being used is the same regardless of whether disk based or temporary projects are being used? Cheers Ben Wright Technical Product Specialist PortSwigger Web Security
