Firefox Browser Doesn't Work Unless Burp Suite is on

Reuben | Last updated: Mar 24, 2022 11:27PM UTC

Hello I recently installed and configured Burp Suite to use for Firefox and after setting up I realized I have a problem where now, unless Burp Suite is running with Intercept off I cannot access any websites through Firefox. If I have Burp Suite completely closed down, it will not work at all. I have proxy on Firefox set to Manual at 127.0.0.1 port 8080 and have confirmed the same on Burp Suite's proxy settings. When Burp Suite is running, and incercept is off, this is the only time I can browse on Firefox. I'm having to post this from a separate browser currently which seems to be unaffected for some reason. Any troubleshooting guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your message. When Burp is not running what settings do you have configured under Firefox -> Network settings? Have you changed it back so Firefox knows not to use Burp? As an alternative to Firefox, you could try using Burp's embedded browser (Proxy -> Intercept -> Open Browser). This would allow you to leave your settings as normal in Firefox and use Burp's embedded browser for any traffic you want to proxy via Burp if that would help.

If I have my Network Settings to manual at 127.0.0.1 port 8080 I get no response from websites (or at least they don't load). When using Burp Suite extension Foxy Proxy, if I want to switch between Burp Suite proxy use and normal Firefox use, should I have my Network Settings set to something different and just be able to click the Foxy Proxy button and select my Burp Suite proxy settings to switch between? Or Do I have to completely switch between manual or Firefox standard proxies every time? Thanks for the help in advance!
