Failed to create burp project cannot parse null string - Burp Suite Professional

os: windows 10 version: burp suite Burp Suite Professional v2023.10.2.3 / installed version of Burp error : An error occurred when starting a project with the selected options. Failed to create Burp project: Cannot parse null string. Hi, I have the same error as here: https://forum.portswigger.net/thread/failed-to-create-burp-project-cannot-parse-null-string-c099410f. But the solutions there don't help. I also tried to install an older version such as 2023.7.2 and others, but no change (also, the application updated itself quite fast after I downgrade it). This issue first occurred today. I used it last time on the 20th of October with no issues (I don't remember which version I had then but either way, none of the 2 stable versions before didn't work). Do you have other solutions for this?

Hello there, I've managed to get it working after much sweat and tears. I uninstalled Burp entirely from my laptop, then reboot. Wen as far back as to install v2022.7 and could open a temporary project. Then ran the latest package as an update (v2023.10.2.3) and could get it working again. Seems to be something with the auto-update wrecking a setting either in the registry or with Java. But the above worked for me, hopefully it works for you too.

Thanks! I also uninstalled it, but indeed not rebooted the PC after. So I will definitely try this next time. I really needed it to get it sorted fast so I did a system restore (as it worked less than one week ago). Now I have v2023.10.1.2 and it works. I'll leave it like this for the moment

Hi both, If anyone does have any information on what version they were updating from and what version they are updating to (and on what operating system) then that would be incredibly useful for us.
