Failed to create burp project: cannot parse null string

Juan | Last updated: Oct 24, 2023 08:56PM UTC

After having issues with Oracle Java that I had to uninstall, I upgraded to the Burp Suite Pro to v2023.10.2.3 (installed version on Windows 11). When selecting the Use Burp Defaults configuration for the project, and trying to start burp, the following message is shown: An error occurred when starting a project with the selected options Failed to create burp project: cannot parse null string I tried installing Java, tried again, and same error message. I uninstalled Oracle Java, tried again, and same error message. I uninstalled and re-installed Burp Suite Pro, and same error message. I then tried installing v2023.10.2.2, and same error message. Do you have ideas what could be going wrong?

Hi Juan Can you please let me know if doing the following resolves the issue: - Delete the version that you currently have installed. - Downgrade to an earlier version, I suggest using v2023.6.2 (https://portswigger.net/burp/releases/professional-community-2023-6-2?requestededition=professional) - Once you have installed that version and opened Burp, navigate to Help> check for updates and update Burp to the latest version from there. Do you know which version of Burp you were using before you upgraded to v2023.10.2.3? We are trying to gather as much information as we can about this to see why it might be occurring.

I installed it, and it is not possible to start a project using v2023.6.2. The version prior to v2023.10.2.3 was Pro v2023.10.2.2.

I uninstalled it and removed all entries from Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\burp\licence1 Then re-installed v2023.6.2, and it finally opened. Then using Help> check for updates and update Burp to the latest version, worked successfully and it is nor running with the latest version, v2023.10.2.3 Dominyque, many thanks!
