Corrupted project after reboot

Gianluca | Last updated: Dec 20, 2021 09:49AM UTC

Hello, I experienced a file project corruption after a suddend machine reboot (win 10). I was working on last Burp Professional version (2021.10.3). Unfortunately, the project restore was able only to recover a minimal part of the project (almost nothing of what was in the scope :( and only few others out of scope request/response), all the recovered data was from more than a week before and nothing in the last days of work (strange, uh?). some more context: 1 - i often use hibernation istead of shut down. 2 - the project is saved on a local drive (with veracrypt encryption - exFAT) Thank for help! Gianluca

Hi Gianluca,

Project files are memory-mapped so if Burp did not exit gracefully, which is usually the case if you have a sudden reboot of the machine, then corruption is expected, unfortunately.

Did you have automatic backups enabled under User options > Misc > Automatic Project Backup?

Yes, that's why i was very suprised to see such failure of the recovery tool. I worked on the same project for over 10 days with the automatic-backups emabled. And the only things that got recovered was from the first 2/3 days (and covering 1/20 of the overall project.. ). Any ideas on how this can be prevented?
