Community version will not open the built-in browser

frere | Last updated: Nov 29, 2022 04:58AM UTC

I have a VM with Linux distro on it and I installed Burp community and the first thing I did was select the open browser button from the proxy tab, it did not open. I then configured settings like my safari browser settings to point my proxy IP then added it to the target scope, still nothing. I then changed a few settings, I can't get the browser to open so what does the browser need to open?

Hi, If you run a health check (via the Help -> Health check for Burp's browser menu item) do all of the tests pass or do you see some errors being reported? Are you able to share the output with us? When you click the Open Browser button are any error messages displayed? Finally, are you able to provide us with your diagnostic information (via the Help -> Diagnostics menu item) so that we can see the exact setup that you are running? If it is easier to provide this information via email then please feel free to send us an email at support@portswigger.net and we can follow up from there.

Hi Ben, Thanks man, yeah I performed a health check and when I select the open browser option it takes about 30 seconds for the window with the error to pop up. I can't upload an image here so I will email it in. I came back to my linux VM the next day and opened Burp and now the browser works but still I will send you the images I have.

Hi, Glad to hear the browser is now working for you. We have received your email so we will take a look and see if there is anything we can suggest.

Hi Mahadev, Are you able to send us an email at support@portswigger.net and include your diagnostic information (available via the Help -> Diagnostics main menu item) so that we can see a little bit more information about your setup?

Hello, I have ran into the same issue as Mahadev. Burp does not open its built-in browser, even after reinstalling. The health check also indicated the same problem: """ Checking headless browser --> Error Aborting checks due to errors. net.portswigger.browser.Zah: No dev tools websocket output from local chromium process 9263 """ My system is running kubuntu 6.8.0-45-generic

Hi Aris, Would that kernel relate to version 24.04?

Aris | Last updated: Oct 10, 2024 01:03PM UTC

Hello, yes. It relates to 24.04.1 LTS
