Clear history in Burp Professional

Luc | Last updated: Apr 17, 2024 12:56AM UTC

When I cleared "HTTP Proxy" under the proxy tab, I can still search intercepted records and can see the burp file is still around 20GB. How could I really delete the history so that I only keep configurations such as in scope domain list, interception rules, etc.. When I googled the problem, some people said there is a clear history feature under the "Project" menu item. I'm on Mac and with the latest Burp version but cannot find that option. Please help. Thanks.

Hi Thank you for reporting your issue. Deleting these items does not remove them from the project file. To remove the items completely, you first delete the items and then save a copy of the project file (Project > Save copy). This will only copy the non-deleted data. I hope this information was helpful!

Thanks for the suggestion. When I save a copy, which checkbox controls items not to be copied to the new project? By default, they are all checked. - Target - Proxy - Dashboard - Repeater - Collaborator - Organizer - Extension Data I assume uncheck "Proxy" will achieve the goal. What about "Proxy" and "Dashboard"? And what is the difference between Target and Proxy? Thanks.
