Chromium browser keeps crashing

Micah | Last updated: Nov 17, 2020 05:22PM UTC

Hello I'm running version 2020.8, build 3537, trying to 'open embedded browser', clicking help links all of which are trying to launch Chromium, which I never really use. Chromium keeps crashing and shutting down. Running the embedded browser health check I see the following reported: Aborting checks due to errors. Unable to start browser: [8764:13680:1117/090724.894:ERROR:google_update_settings.cc(246)] Failed opening key Software\Chromium to set usagestats; result: 5 [8764:12568:1117/090733.775:ERROR:device_event_log_impl.cc(208)] [09:07:33.775] Bluetooth: bluetooth_adapter_winrt.cc:736 GetBluetoothAdapterStaticsActivationFactory failed: Class not registered (0x80040154) [12172:888:1117/090755.926:ERROR:google_update_settings.cc(246)] Failed opening key Software\Chromium to set usagestats; result: 5 [12172:5488:1117/090802.863:ERROR:device_event_log_impl.cc(208)] [09:08:02.863] Bluetooth: bluetooth_adapter_winrt.cc:736 GetBluetoothAdapterStaticsActivationFactory failed: Class not registered (0x80040154) [14188:8084:1117/090808.982:ERROR:google_update_settings.cc(246)] Failed opening key Software\Chromium to set usagestats; result: 5 [14188:3156:1117/090812.543:ERROR:device_event_log_impl.cc(208)] [09:08:12.543] Bluetooth: bluetooth_adapter_winrt.cc:736 GetBluetoothAdapterStaticsActivationFactory failed: Class not registered (0x80040154) Any ideas what's the problem? I usually use Firefox for my testing browser which is fine but I sure would like to view your documentation/help links, all of which are busted because of this chromium dependency.

Thanks for getting in touch. Do you see the same issue if you use the latest version of Burp? If you do, would you be happy to share a copy of the output from Help -> Diagnostics with us? You can send the diagnostics over by email to support@portswigger.net and we can take a closer look.

Thanks for sending those over (and the screenshot), they've arrived and we're taking a look through them
