Burp Suite not working in console

Furkan | Last updated: Feb 16, 2022 12:56PM UTC

I am using Windows 10. To limit ram in Burp Suite, I need to run the following on the console. "java -jar -Xmx4g burpsuite_pro.jar" but I can't run it. I am getting an error like this; """ C:\Users\lblin\AppData\Local\Programs\BurpSuitePro>java -jar -Xmx4g burpsuite_pro.jar Error: A JNI error has occurred, please check your installation and try again Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: burp/StartBurp has been compiled by a more recent version of the Java Runtime (class file version 53.0), this version of the Java Runtime only recognizes class file versions up to 52.0 at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass1(Native Method) at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(Unknown Source) at java.security.SecureClassLoader.defineClass(Unknown Source) at java.net.URLClassLoader.defineClass(Unknown Source) at java.net.URLClassLoader.access$100(Unknown Source) at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.launcher.LauncherHelper.checkAndLoadMain(Unknown Source) """

Hi Furkan, Are you able to clarify which version of Java and which version of Burp you are using?

Furkan | Last updated: Feb 17, 2022 01:12AM UTC

My Java version is "1.8.0_321" and my Burp Suite version is "2022.1.1"

Hi Furkan, Thank you for the confirmation. We no longer support the use of Java 8 and this is the cause of the error that you are seeing. You would need to update your Java version in order to run the Burp Jar file from the command line (Java version 9 and above should be fine - we currently ship the latest version of Burp with OpenJDK version 16.0.2).
