Burp scan paused due to error

Prateek | Last updated: Oct 14, 2020 04:51PM UTC

Hi team, I am running a crawl and audit using Burp suite pro and the scan would run for a few minutes, from Flow I was able to see over 40 urls and most with 200 response, then the scan would pause and fail, the error message was "Paused due to error: Could not connect to any seed URLs." Could you please help with this issue? Thanks

Is this occurring for all URLs you scan? How far into the scan does the issue occur? How many URLs do you have configured to scan in the task? Is the issue occurring during the crawl? Or the audit?

I too would like to know more about this. It starts at paused due to 10 consecutive errors, then again at 11, 12, and 13. I'm scanning one URL and it's during the audit phase, well into the process.

Hi Andy,

The consecutive audit items error means that X number of consecutive requests during the audit failed. This could be due to network errors, a WAF, etc...

You'll want to see if you can identify a pattern in the failing requests e.g. are they all failing on a specific audit items or type of resource?

You can check out the scanner documentation for a full breakdown of the most common error messages:

If you'd like us to investigate this further for you, please email support@portswigger.net with the information below:

  • The URL of the site you are testing (if it is publicly accessible and you are authorized to share it)
  • Screenshots or a screen recording of the process you are taking to launch the scan
  • Scan configurations used
  • Diagnostics (Help > Diagnostics) taken after the issue has been replicated
  • Screenshots of the Event log
  • Are your scans consistently pausing/failing on a specific request?
  • Screenshots of View details > Audit items on the scan task. Please ensure that the Errors column is visible to narrow down the endpoints where the errors are occurring

For clarity, Prateek's issue is related to connectivity between Burp and the site (Burp cannot perform a successful DNS lookup for the host and so cannot connect to the site to scan it.
