Hi Andy,
The consecutive audit items error means that X number of consecutive requests during the audit failed. This could be due to network errors, a WAF, etc...
You'll want to see if you can identify a pattern in the failing requests e.g. are they all failing on a specific audit items or type of resource?
You can check out the scanner documentation for a full breakdown of the most common error messages:
If you'd like us to investigate this further for you, please email support@portswigger.net with the information below:
- The URL of the site you are testing (if it is publicly accessible and you are authorized to share it)
- Screenshots or a screen recording of the process you are taking to launch the scan
- Scan configurations used
- Diagnostics (Help > Diagnostics) taken after the issue has been replicated
- Screenshots of the Event log
- Are your scans consistently pausing/failing on a specific request?
- Screenshots of View details > Audit items on the scan task. Please ensure that the Errors column is visible to narrow down the endpoints where the errors are occurring
For clarity, Prateek's issue is related to connectivity between Burp and the site (Burp cannot perform a successful DNS lookup for the host and so cannot connect to the site to scan it.
