Burp Project looses data

Gianluca | Last updated: Nov 14, 2016 09:12AM UTC

I used burp 1.7.10 for a whole day without problems. I created a new project and at the end of the day i just closed burp without any errors or problems. The 2nd day i opened the same project and everything was fine, no errors or anything strange and every request from the previous day was there. I just continued my PT as normal. After 4-5 hours (in the morning everything worked fine and as far as i remember i never closed burp), i noticed that without doing anything i started to see only request of the current day and only to the login page of the app i was testing ( except for 100/200 request from the previous day - but that day i made thousand requests). Almost all my previous request were gone. Also, i made some active scans on some pages and the "fun" thing was that the scanned url were still there (in the scan tab) with the date of the previous day, but with no issues/requests to browse (and on those scanned pages i found some wuln with the scanner). I tryed to save the state and restore - but everything was still corrupted. I really don't know how this happened... the only thing i can add was that i "suspended" my laptop during lunch time without closing burp, but when i resumed my work everything was there and i noticed the problem 1/2 hours later. Thank you for help.

Thanks for this feedback. From what you described, it's likely that suspending your machine while Burp was running did cause the problem. Burp uses memory-mapped files for handling project data, and this is a low-level OS function that might not play with with suspending the OS on some platforms.
