Burp Not Loading, No Error Messages

Nathan | Last updated: Jan 12, 2022 05:51PM UTC

I have Burp Suite Pro on my system (Win 10). It was previously working just fine, but now today it fails to load. I don't get any error messages, nor is there anything in the event viewer. Just doesn't do anything after I tell it to start.

Thanks for your message. Which version of Burp Suite Professional are you using? Do you use the installed version or do you launch the JAR file from the CLI? If you are using the JAR file, which version of Java do you have installed?

Hi Michelle, Thanks for replying. I'm using the installed version, but I don't recall which version. Ordinarily I'd check within the app, but given the current issue, I can't. I know there is an update to apply. Is there a way to find version without accessing the GUI?

You can try to launch Burp from the CLI, if you include the -diagnostics option then this will also output details about our installation to the command line. First you can switch to the Java directory for your Burp installation, by default this will be: c:\Users\<your_user>\AppData\Local\BurpSuitePro\jre\bin You can then use the following command to start Burp: java --illegal-access=permit -jar -Xmx4g c:\Users\<your_user>\AppData\Local\BurpSuitePro\burpsuite_pro.jar --diagnostics Can you email the output from trying to start Burp at the CLI to support@portswigger/net, please? Alternatively, you may want to try reinstalling the latest version of Burp.
