Burp browser not working with /etc/hosts file

Sungmin | Last updated: Feb 19, 2023 06:58AM UTC

Hello, I am having trouble using Burp while doing HacktheBox. Whenever the host can be visited by its IP, intercepting or visiting the host is not an issue on Burp browser. However, whenever I have to make a modification to the /etc/hosts file on my Kali, I cannot visit the host. I'm not sure if the following is useful information, but these are what happens whenever I try to access a domain I wrote in /etc/hosts. 1. Default Spectrum Router info (my IP is spectrum) 2. It does not accept HTTP and redirects to HTTPS 3. Consistently, when I cannot visit, it goes to /cgi-bin/index.cgi I'm finding myself unable to practice many boxes because of this issue. Please help.
