Browser says no Internet connection after Burp closed (community edition)

I'm very new to security and using Burp so apologies if this is a very basic question. After configuring Burp as the proxy server for my browser and setting up the certificate, I find that, when I close Burp and try to visit any site, my browser says there is no Internet connection. When I open Burp again, it works fine. I'm not sure why this could be but presumably it has to do with the fact that the browser is attempting to contact the proxy server when it is not running. Is there a way to solve this problem without updating system settings every time I open or close Burp?
