Automatic Move to the next match + quicker use of Extenders

Hi, I’d like to share some feature requests, which I think would improve Burp Suite even more?? 1. Add into settings “Automatic move to the next match”. The desired outcome would be, every time I click on some issue, it would immediately take me to the highlighted request payload; or response highlight. This could be split into 2 categories “Automatic move to the next match in Request” and “Automatic move to the next match in Response”. At the moment, when I click on Issue (e.g. XSS), I need to go to the Response and click on “Move to the next match” arrow to achieve this (or click on Editor and do hotkey combination) 2. Add into settings ”Automatic Auto-scroll to match when text changes“. I use it all the time I need to search something, and I always need to enable it in every single instance. 3. Allow search in Extender -> BApp store. There are so many extensions, search would be amazing?? 4. In Extender -> BApp store -> allow auto-scroll by name when I type. For example, I know I want to find Logger++, so I want to click in random Extension, and start typing “Lo” which would take me right away to “Log Requests to SQLite” as that is the 1st extender, which has this starting letters 5. Add some extension tags, which I could very quickly filter. I usually use the same ~10 extensions, so I’d like to tag them all with something (heart, rating, favorite, …) so that I could quickly filter only those I’m regularly using, and I wouldn’t need to scroll through the entire list with every new project I believe these would be awesome additions?? Many thanks for consideration??

Thanks for these requests Andrej. We've added them to our development backlog for consideration.

Andre, in point 2, are you using the global search function? Could you provide a screenshot of the current feature and how you use it?

As for point 2, I'm having the same question. Almost every pane in burpsuite allows to search but I have to enable the "Auto-Scroll to match when text changes" each and every time. Can I globally enable the feature for every pane with search functionality? Regards, Lieven

Hi Lieven Could you send us some screenshots of the feature you are referring to so we can be certain we're looking at the same functionality? Our email address is support@portswigger.net Cheers!

For the point 2, I think what they mean is in the Proxy history or Repeater view, when you search request or response content, you have to manually click on the settings just at the left of their corresponding search bar (at the left of the 2 arrows for previous/next match), then select ”Automatic Auto-scroll to match when text changes“. You have to do it 4 times for each request and response in both Proxy history or Repeater, and it's lost every time you close Burp… So really painful. Imho it should be a User option, and the same setting for all places. All search boxes work with this default. +10 to this specific feature request.

Hi Flawseeker Thank you for your feedback. Lieven did send us some screenshots, so we have raised this as a feature request. I've associated this thread with the feature request, so we can continue to monitor the popularity of this feature request (and I've added your +10 ;) ).

We have now implemented a feature to persist search settings in the message editor. Can you please download the 2021.4 release and let us know if you have any issues?

1. Downloaded the latest version 2. Set the User Options -> Misc -> HTTP Message Search to my liking (regex+Auto-scroll) 3. Restarted Burp The options persisted just like I asked. This saves me a ton of clicks, tx :) Regards, Lieven
