Activation lost after Windows Upgrade

Hi, I just upgraded to the Windows 10 preview and the Burp activation on the machine is gone. Are there any plans to improve the behavior of Burp in this regard? I think it's quite inconvenient to need to reactivate if multiple machines are upgraded. Apart from that, Burp is of course great software. Thank you and regards Burp User

Thanks for your message. Burp relies on the Java preferences store to persist the activation state. Unfortunately, some invasive OS reinstalls or upgrades may remove the contents of this store, and there isn't much Burp can do when that occurs. You can go ahead and reactivate Burp in this situation, and let us know if you have any problems.

Thanks for your answer. I believe that the Preference Store is not deleted. The License Information still appears to be present, as it was not required to enter the license key again. Burp seems to just think it's running on a different machine, similar to Windows Activation, and wants to be reactivated. Maybe that helps to clarify things a bit. Regards BurpUser

I think we just accept that a full OS upgrade is liable to lose your license activation state. You can go ahead and reactivate your license after the upgrade. If you find that Burp asks to be reactivated repeatedly following an OS upgrade (i.e. even after a successful reactivation), let us know the details.

Ok, thanks for the answer. But if I have used all activation on all my computers, after an update I'll be stuck with no activation left and a Burp Licence with no more use ? That's what I fear.

If you are seeing repeated loss of license activation state (aside from, e.g., when doing a full OS upgrade), then check whether anything you have installed is reverting your Registry (on Windows) or home directory (on Linux / MacOS). If the problem persists, please email support@portswigger.net with details and we'll try to help.

This is happening to one of our installations as well. I am okay with reactivating it when it happens but I understand that there is a limit to the number of reactivations that can be done? What happens if we hit this limit? Thanks in advance for your response.

My laptop had windows 10 pro burp installed. After formatting I installed windows 10 single language and tried to activate burp but no luck, it says "activation failed no more activation for this license". But burp was activated on this pc Kindly suggest what to do in this case. Is there any way that I can activation burp on my PC? Is my license going to waste?

If you reformat your machine or reinstall the OS, then loss of license activation is expected behavior. If you run into problems reactivating your license, please email office@portswigger.net for assistance.

Dear Team, I configured burp pro in redhat linux, i downloded .jar from burp pro. then download the license and load it to the .jar file. i used java -jar burp.jar to open and gave license. Now i closed and open the server its again asking license key.. this is for 3 user.. Why its asking again, license is three user if i use another will it be wasted. let me know..
